Andy brings a wealth of knowledge, training, education, experience, and he has an unique ability, to effectively engage with our communities disenfranchised populations.
As an officer I have done the following:
-Become qualified through MCOLES as a police K9 handler and trainer.
– K9 lead at Ford Field for all Detroit Lions home games 2015&2016 seasons.
-U.S. Secret Service Point of contact for all dignitary visits at WSU(including POTUS/First Lady as well as former Presidents).
-Track and apprehend suspects with my K9 partner Drago for WSUPD, DPD(VCTF,DFAT,CAT,HTF,SPECIAL OPS) ATF, MSP, DEARBORN and GROSSE POINTE FARMS.
-Testify in high profile criminal trials for K9 purposes (ex. 2015 Rosa Parks & W. Grand Blvd bus homicide case).
-Locate and recover firearms for WSUPD and DPD (PATROL, CAT AND SPECIAL OPS) that had recently been used in shootings.
-Locate firearms and ammunition for MDOC during parole absconder sweeps and spot checks of parolees and probationers.
-Received continuous education and experience in K9 handling, training and administration of K9 units.
-Assisted in selection and training of 4 WSUPD K9 handlers and their K9’s from green to ready for patrol.
-Assisted in the certification of all WSUPD K9 teams.
-Conducted at least 100 explosive sweeps at every major venue in Detroit during my K9 0fficer career.
-Assisted DPD with approximately 50 bomb threats.
-Assisted in training of K9 handlers from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, DPD, Wayne County Sheriffs Department, ATF and TSA.
-Assisted in the training of various K9 teams from multiple agencies throughout the state during the Police K9 trainers course at Oakland Police Academy 10/14/13-11/15/13.
-Participated annually in the seminar for the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers held in Alpena at the CRTC.
-Never had a “bad bite” type situation despite the fact that K9 Drago and I have apprehended more subjects who committed violent crimes than any other K9 team in Detroit.

–Wayne State University Police Department:
-2 merit commendations and 1 life saving award.
–Detroit Police Department:
-1 merit commendation (for outstanding K9 work that led to the capture of an armed robbery subject). Commendation recommended by Sgt. Scott Hall (S-78) of the 3rd Precinct Special Ops unit.
-1 merit commendation (for outstanding K9 work that led to the capture and conviction of two subjects for multiple murders and several other felonies). Commendation recommended by Sgt. Roger Salcedo(S-715) of the 10th Precinct
–National Association of Professional Canine Handlers
– 2014 K9 Utility team of the year. Award presented to 1 K9 team per year for real world K9 success. In 2014 over 800 K9 teams throughout the United States and Canada were eligible to receive this award from the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers.
